Synopsis:
This
is the story of a 10 year old girl and a 10,000 year-old Mammoth…
Elsie,
an Orphan, cannot bear it when she is treated badly down at Wormly Hall, an
awful place for poor children. One night, she decides to escape and live the
rest of her life on the streets on London. Suddenly, there is news about a
rare, 10,000 year-old baby mammoth that has arrived in the Natural History
Museum; Elsie wants to find out more.
Elsie
wishes for hope, love and, most importantly, happiness. When she hears this epic
tale about a mammoth, she knew she had to meet it. Once she finds very
strange cleaning women (named Dotty), the two pair up to sneak into the
museum in the night to capture a tiny glimpse at this prehistoric monster.
Just
then, Elsie sees something. Elsie is pretty sure the monster is crying, but everyone
thinks she has gone mad! A dead creature couldn’t possibly cry! But Elsie won’t
give up to easily. She wants her hope to be true…
Can
Elsie manage to figure out what has happened to this mammoth? If this baby
creature was lost, where did its family go? Read this book to unravel the
secret!
Why I like this book:
This
is a very epic and thrilling novel written by David Walliams. A very woolly
mammoth and an intrepid young orphan teaming up to fight to claim their
happiness. The meaning behind this book tells us that we should never give
up, no matter what comes in our way.
