Synopsis:

This story started with 3 siblings with the names of Mike, Peggy and Nora. Since their parents mysteriously disappeared in an aeroplane crash, they had been under the care of their cruel and bad tempered aunt and uncle, named Harriet and Henry. Their unloving aunt and uncle made them to every single house chore that needed to be done, and scolded them viciously when it hadn’t been done to satisfaction. The children think that there is no more hope that their parents will return… will they live with their aunt and uncle forever?

Luckily, the children were very good friends with a young boy named Jack. He was tall, but he didn’t look much older than the children. Nobody knew his age, because he didn’t know it himself. Jack lived with his grandfather on a small farm that he had to take care of. He didn’t enjoy it much there, but he was always very sympathetic to the children. Jack hade many amazing qualities. He was able to catch fish, skin rabbits and live out in the wild!

One day, Nora (the youngest sibling) was devastated as her aunt had screamed at her for not washing the curtains properly. Jack knew something had to be done; he couldn’t just stand around and watch his friends get hurt without doing anything at all!

Jack, being a kind hearted boy, decided to have a smart plan to help his friends. ‘You mustn’t tell anyone.’ he whispered. Jack explained to them about a mysterious island on the other side of the lake. ‘Yesss Yess lets go!!!’ Nora squeaked. The 4 friends rowed their way across the freezing lake and eventually made it through. The island was perfect: it had a clean water spring, heather, bracken and even caves to hide it! It was the most beautiful place the children had ever seen! At once, they all agreed that they would leave their old lives behind them and start a new adventure…

All that week, the children were carefully carrying out their plans. Harriet and Henry could not understand why the children were acting so differently; they did not mind being scolded at all! Even Nora didn’t burst into tears when she was shouted at. They were all much too excited to move to the secret island.

After some difficulty – which took them quite a while- the 4 friends were able to move everything that they owned to the island. Clothes, Food, Cutlery, Books, Plates, Drawing items, Blankets and everything that their Aunt and Uncle won’t notice had gone.

After a while, the children settled well onto the island. They were finally free; they could do whatever they liked, go wherever they wanted! But of course, the children could not live in harmony forever! They faced many difficulties: shortage of food, arguments and many more. Their worst fear was what if someone came onto the island and revealed their secret that they had been trying to hide?

Will the children be able to survive under harsh winter conditions? Will they ever get caught? Do they find their parents at last? Read this wonderful book by Enid Blyton to find out!

Why I like this book:

This is such an amazing story about cooperation and working together as a team to solve the problems. Many plots unfold along the way, and it drags the reader into wanting to read more about the Childrens’ adventure. If you like reading books about people stranded on desert islands, you should read this :D :P
