Synopsis: The word “divergent” is defined as “differing from each
other or from a standard.” This story begins with a 16 year old girl named Beatrice.
In Chicago, society is divided into five factions, or groups, each dedicated
to the personality of a person. These groups consist of the following: Candor
(the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the
peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year,
all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the
rest of their lives. Beatrice, her parents and her brother all belong to the
Abnegation faction, and for her, the decision is between staying with her
family or being who she really is—she can’t have both. So she makes a choice
that surprises everyone, including herself. During the highly competitive initiation that follows,
Beatrice renames herself Tris and struggles to determine who her friends
really are—and where, exactly. Tris soon becomes fast friends with a daring
girl named Cristina, a transfer that came from the Candor faction. Tris has to make
sure that she passes everything that her new faction has to offer; otherwise
she will have to join the factionless, homeless ones on the street. But Tris
also has a secret, one she’s kept hidden from everyone because she’s been
warned it can mean death. And as she discovers a growing conflict that
threatens to unravel her seemingly perfect society, she also learns that her
secret might help her save those she loves . . . or it might destroy her. What faction does
she choose? Does Tris manage to overcome the hard choices that lie ahead? Read
this book to find out!

Why I liked this book: This book is full of drama and action scenes. It shows how Tris overcomes her fears and fights for the sake of her family and herself. As this book is part of a Trilogy, I will be uploading all 3 books soon as this is just the first part of the story. Why not watch the movies too? :) The next book in the series is called ‘Insurgent’

Aarya, what a smashing review. My daughter loved these books. Jude liked the fils, LOL! He doesn't read (you might know that). I have not read them, but I must get around to doing so. I love your use of rhetorical questions. Well done.
